I'M DONE!!!

Wow, I can't believe the school year is over! I remember this time last year thinking about making it through a year while being pregnant the first half, having a baby in between, then leaving a little baby the rest of the year. I knew it would not be easy, and it wasn't. But somehow, it went by pretty fast. I am so excited to be able to stay at home with Shane for at least the next couple years, and hopefully for the rest of our children too. I am so glad to have had 3 years to be able to teach and have loved it. I will miss all the kids and the relationships you build with them, the other teachers I've worked with, getting excited about a fun way to teach something, field trips and track meets, and watching the kids progress and grow. I will not miss a bag full of work to take home, constantly worrying about if I am doing good enough, parent teacher conferences, and observations. Most of all, I am excited for this next chapter in our life, and to be able to spend more time with this cute little guy doing things like this!

Save Rock Canyon!

Ha ha I sound like a hippie with that title! But honestly, they are planning on turning one of Provo's greatest natural wonders (there I go again!) into a quarry. I did my good deed for the day and emailed Mr. Brent Wilde at bwilde@provo.ut.gov and told him where he could put his quarry that as a concerned citizen I would like him to know how I felt. Feel free to do the same. Anyways, the point was, we went on a hike there on Saturday to try out our hiking backpack, and had a blast. Here we are before heading into the canyon.
There is a stream along the path and we thought it would be fun to get Shane's feet wet.

No reaction yet...

There it is!

On the way back he wanted us to know that he was upset about the whole water incident, but quickly forgave us and managed to fall asleep like this.

Lessons Learned in Motherhood

Yesterday had me thinking about how weird/cool it is that I am actually a mother. It has been 5 short months but I feel like I have grown and learned so much already. Here are some of the lessons I've learned:

1) Always, always, cover parts with a diaper or wipe when changing a boy's diaper!

2) Have a burp cloth handy at all times. And if you put on new clothes, you're just asking for them to be christened!

3) Never change your baby's poopy diaper until you are absolutely positive he's done!

4) If you want Shane's clothes to match, set the outfit out before you leave for work (love you Josh ;) )

5) A good alternative to having your hair thinned out at the salon is to put it within your baby's grasp

6) When you see little white spots on your baby's gums, don't assume the teething will be over any time soon!

7) Don't try to cut your baby's hair on your own, even if it's just a few hairs in front- it will not look good!

8) Never think to yourself, "Hey, I think I've got this parenting thing figured out." You will quickly realize that is far from the truth!

9) When you realize that, just laugh and don't be hard on yourself.

10) Enjoy each moment, good or bad, and remember how grateful you are for this cute little boy!

Music to the Ears

Shane has started laughing, and it so dang cute! We captured it on camera when Grandma Dettinger came. That is the second video. The first video is one of him blowing rasperries, just because it cracks me up. I'm glad Josh is on top of filming all this stuff!
