Woohoo!
Josh got into medical school! After only having one interview and no offers, we started getting worried that maybe he wouldn't get in this year. After doing a lot of research, he decided to apply to a school in the Caribbean, they interviewed him two weeks ago and called yesterday to tell him he's in! It's called Ross University, and it's on a little island called Dominica. The things we really like about it are that you're only there for a year and a half and then do all your training here in the U.S., the pass rates on the big test you have to take are really good, the facilities and technology there are awesome, and his counselor at BYU recommended it and said it was fully accredited. He still hasn't heard anything either way from about 9 schools, so he still could be accepted at one of those and if he was we would probably take it, but we would be really happy going here and it just feels good to know we will be going somewhere next year. We are a little nervous but mostly excited about the adventure this will be! And, let's face it, after looking at this for the past few months....

No Luck Yet
So in Shane's almost two months of life he hasn't seen too much besides the walls of our basement. Josh's time volunteering in the pediatrics unit of the hospital put the fear of death in him that our child would get RSV. We've been pretty anal about it thus far (thanks for putting up with the whole handwashing bit everybody!), but are loosening up quite a bit! Last night we decided to go bowling and took him with us. Why I wanted to go bowling, I'm not sure. Maybe bowling on the Wii got me overconfident. It's kind of a family joke how bad I am, and every time we go everyone is trying to give me advice the whole time. But look at my form, perfect right?
Okay, maybe not, I bowled a 54 the first game and not much better the second! As sad as it sounds, bowling over 100 is on my life list, right up there with "do a triathlon" and "write a book". I think I might accomplish those ones before this!

Bless His Heart...
So Josh has been so good to not only watch Shane all day but also make dinner most nights so I don't have to worry about it when I get home. His only stipulation was that I pick the dinners and write very specific instructions for him. So I picked my favorite dish, Crockpot Chicken, recipe as follows:
Put 4-5 chicken breast in the crockpot
Add 1 can cream of chicken, 1 can cream of celery, a packet of Good Seasons Zesty Italian dressing, and 1 box of cream cheese cut into chunks
Cook on high 3-4 hours or low 6-8 hours
I had gotten the soup all ready for him (gluten free) the night before so that all he would have to do was throw everything in. Well, I got a call at school and it was Josh, wanting to know how much cream cheese to put in. I said, "a box", and he said "you mean like the whole stick," and I said "yeah". I came home eager to feast on my favorite meal, dished us up, and thought, hmmm, this doesn't taste quite the same. We were going over what could be different: maybe it was because you stuck it on high instead of low? Did you remember the packet of italian dressing? He started repeating everything he did, and walked over to the shelf and said "I put in a whole stick of this". Only the "this" he was pointing to was not cream cheese, but CRISCO!!! Eeeewwww! I think I'll head to the gym now... ! Really though, even though I just ate a bunch of lard in liquid form, I am so grateful for Josh being so willing to help me out with everything. He usually does pretty well, I'm not quite sure what happened tonight! But he did give us a good laugh, and something to blog about!

He's Alive!
As you can see, Shane made it through his first week at home with dad! Ha ha, just kidding, Josh is very good with him. I went back to work this week so Josh began his duty as stay-at-home dad and did quite well. The first day was a bit rough for all parties, but I have gotten back into the swing of things and Shane has been a happy little chap again. We even made it through the day from "you know where" yesterday, 13 hours at school for parent teacher conferences without too much difficulty.

Josh has been a little bored at home by himself so he's kept himself entertained by playing dress up with Shane, even if the clothes are ridiculously big on him. Shane does not seem quite as entertained.

1 Month Old!
I can't believe we've had Shane for 1 month already! The time has flown by, and he already seems so much bigger! We are learning new things every day and have loved every minute! Some things we love about him...
He is usually pretty content, especially after spitting up!

When we do "tummy time", he's not as interested in lifting his head as he is his rear- I like to think he's practicing to "back it up" with his mom soon... and look how long he is- how is he our child?

Poor Kid...
So we finally found the cds that had all our baby pictures on them, and we definitely noticed some similarities between my pictures and Shane. I guess Josh's rugged good looks will have to go to the next boy! (don't panic mom and dad, that won't be for a little while)
Me coming out of the hospital. I am quite the hairy beast! And we thought Shane had hair...
