Christmas in the Basement

So this year with Shane being so young we decided to just stay here in our humble abode and have Christmas with just us. We missed our families but we still had a lot of fun, and even though we don't really have a chimney Santa still managed to get in somehow. We won't bore you with all the details, but here are some highlights:

In keeping with tradition, Josh got me this...

And I got him this...

We played some of this...

Josh had a lot of fun with these...

We watched this...

And some of this...
Shane did a lot of this...

And just cause I thought it was cute, I thought you'd want to see this...

Merry Christmas everyone! And Happy Anniversary to us tomorrow!

This Week in Pictures

Shane got done with the bililights just in time for Grandma Nebeker to come, and he even held off peeing long enough to show this onesie off for her when she came.
Not such a fan of his first real bath

Still traumatized... but so cute!

He's been practicing his head-ups, still working on that...

We try to get him to stay awake a little bit after he eats, I love this one, he looks like a big boy in bed or something. He's looking at our Christmas tree lights

And he succumbs to sleep pretty easily (I wonder who he gets that from?)

He's entertained a few visitors...

And eaten a lot. This is my favorite face, his "I'm fat and happy face"
We love you Shane!

Shane Pics

We've sure been enjoying having Shane at home! He is such a good baby, and we have loved getting to know him and see little bits of his personality when he's not sleeping . Don't forget to send us your email address, I think I will make the blog private this weekend.
These were 0-3 months and he was swimming in them!
His Mom loves him

Daddy is awesome at swaddling him, he loves it.

Taking a "bath." He wasn't such a fan, until we started washing and brushing his hair. He spit out his pacificier and just went "aaaahhhh", as if to say "this is the life!"

We had to try a mohawk

He's actually been awake today!

He had to go under the lights for jaundice. I was worried about not being able to really take him out, but he is such a trooper, he's just been chillin in there without fussing too much. He didn't even cry when they pricked his foot, he just squished up his face a little.

Going Private...

So we decided that now that we're posting pictures of our little one that it is a good time to go private. I'm hoping to do it pretty soon, so if you want to keep reading our blog, email me your email address at kdettin@gmail.com or post a comment with it so we can send you an invite. And even if I don't know you've been reading our blog, if I know you, then I would love to send you an invitation! More pictures of Shane to come soon...

Shane Christopher Dettinger

Our little boy was born last night at 7:03 pm! If you want the details, read on. If not, just skip the next paragraph.

So I was almost positive my due date was Dec 15th, but the ultrasound showed it at Dec 1st, so my doctor had me go on Tuesday and Friday this week to do nonstress tests to just make sure everything was alright. We were very surprised when on Friday after school we went and his amniotic fluid was pretty low, so they decided to induce me. They gave me some prostin gel at 10:30 that night to get me a little readier, and told us they might need to do it three or four times every six hours. But we came back at 6:00 am yesterday morning and the doctor said I had changed enough to start me on Pitocin. The labor went great, the contractions weren't too bad until my water broke, and the nurse gave me the epidural right after. And can I just say that epidurals are fabulous! I was able to sleep for an hour or so which helped me feel energized to push. I pushed for an hour and the baby's heartrate was dipping a little, so the doctor gave me an episiotomy and used the foreceps to help me get him out a little faster.

All in all, the whole labor experience was not as bad as I thought it would be. I feel a little spoiled because my pregnancy is over now and I really can't complain about any part of it! I'll post some more pictures when he's awake enough to get some better ones. He weighed in at 8 pounds 8 ounces (maybe they were right about my due date!) and has a pretty good headful of dark hair. We just can't believe he's really here, and that he's ours, he's pretty stinkin cute!

The Final Countdown

1 month from today is my due date! If only I really knew the exact time he was coming... but I know it's coming fast at any rate!

Things I'm Loving About Being Pregnant:
-People are so nice! I get so many more smiles from random strangers, and they all want to open the door for you and do other nice things
-The way I can shamefully abuse the "craving" excuse
-The conversations with kids about it. One of my favorites was this week when I told another 4th grade class I was teaching for science that I was having a baby. The next day, one of the girls (not the brightest one of the bunch :) ) asked, "So, have you had your baby yet?" Another was when my mom came to meet my class and one of my girls asked me, "Have you told your mom you're pregnant yet?"

Things I'm Not Enjoying So Much:
-Lack of good sleep
-Going to the bathroom every 5 minutes
-The increased laundry I've had to do since my belly is now a magnet for almost anything!
It's all a part of the journey though and I can't wait for the final product!

Halloween!

So I'm pretty much a cheeseball when it comes to getting excited about holidays, I think even more so now that I'm pregnant. Needless to say, Josh and I had a lot of fun this Halloween!
Our pumpkins we carved last week- mine turned out a little crooked but Josh's looks good
This was actually for crazy hair day the day before, Josh insisted on doing my hair Princess Leia syle.

Halloween night we drove down to Manti to see Josh's family. They shut down Main Street and have a huge trunk or treat for like 6 blocks for all the little kids. Josh took the picture because he was the only one not wearing a costume. There I am in all my pumpkin glory, the picture of just me was too hideous to post, but hopefully you can still get a good laugh out of this one! I was laughing at school because during an assembly we were singing songs about the "Great Pumpkin", and I saw a couple of 2nd graders turn around and point at me and say in all seriousness, "Look, the great pumpkin is right over there!"

These are all of Shane's future playmates and partners in crime.

After trunk or treating we went to see Josh's sister Hannah dance and went to the "Tunnel of Terror." Thankfully, it did not cause me to go into labor!
Just 6 more weeks! We're getting pretty excited to meet our little guy!
