Marissa: her life's motto right now is "if something can be worn, I should be wearing it." I'm not exaggerating when I say that the only time she is not wearing shoes is when she is sleeping or taking a bath. I just hope this lasts through the winter when she actually has to be wearing all the stuff she keeps wanting to try on!
She begs to sit on the potty all the time, but mostly because she thinks it's fun to put toilet paper in it.
She can give me a run for my money sometimes. This was after a lunch where I had tried to get her to say please instead of screaming for something. She fell asleep in her chair before she would give in. Let's just say I've learned when to pick my battles with her!
But she does usually do a good job of saying please most of the time when she wants something ("eese! eese!") Like when we go for walks and she begs me to pick her up every stick and leaf we pass on the sidewalk. This is about the point when I get her out of the stroller and say "find your own dang sticks!"
She is trying to say more and more words every day, though I'm not sure how many of them someone else would understand, I sure think she's cute trying!
Shane: He started school last week and is absolutely loving it!! He goes on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9-11:30 which I think is just the right amount for right now.
He is such a good boy and so eager to do what is right. He (most of the time) wants Marissa to be doing what he is doing and is a good example for her, especially of how to love books!
At bedtime we have a little routine where I take him up to bed, pray with him, he says an article of faith, and then we sing a song. He loves it, and so do I, it is our little time together (Marissa will be in her crib listening) and the time where I usually get a good glimpse into that little head of his. A few examples of late:
-We were talking about getting married and he was telling me who he thought he was going to marry. We were talking about the girl and the conversation went like this:
Shane: What doesn't she like?
Me: What bud?
Shane: Scaring her (this is true, she does get bugged when he roars at her ha ha).
Shane: But what does she like?
Me; What?
Shane: Marrying her.
I told him that he couldn't get married for a long time and that he might want to marry someone else then. He said, "Who will I marry then?" When I told him I didn't know and he would just have to wait and see he got really concerned and said, "Tell me who I'm going to marry! I need to know who I will marry!"
-He was saying the second article of faith (We believe that men will be punished for their own sins and not for Adam's transgression). He paused after and said in a serious voice, "We shouldn't transgression." I asked him what Adam did and he said, "He ate that fruit." I said "that's right." Then he said, "But we have some fruit in our house." I told him that it was fruit from a special tree that Heavenly Father told him not to eat, and he said,"Well, could he climb the tree?" "I don't know, probably not bud."
-We were talking about what some of the articles of faith were about, and when we got to #3, I asked him what it was about and he said, "all the nice men." At first I was thinking what?? And then I remembered the little phrase from it that says, "all mankind may be saved". I got a pretty good laugh out of that one.
-Also, he really is quite distraught that we are not actually naming the baby Boovis like he thinks we should.
-I have told most of my family this but it would be a travesty not to have it documented. He was going potty one day and he pooped and said super excitedly, "Splash! It leaped into the water! Like a humpback whale!"
Josh: He is doing really well after his surgery and it was so nice to have a week with him while he was recovering. He couldn't really pick up the kids at all and he was pretty tender, but we went on a lot of walks to try and get the blood flowing and we hung out a lot in the backyard. He just started a 2 week endocrinology rotation before he leaves for October and November, which I am trying to forget about. And his residency application is in- start saying some prayers for us, I don't know how we'll handle the anticipation til March!
Kelly: I am doing good, feeling better and better every day. Now that I am feeling less nauseous the food cravings are starting though. I am currently obsessed with pepperjack cheese and Franks' Red Hot Sauce ha ha. Anything I can put either of those on, I do. I am still running but slowing down a lot. It has been easy to forget I'm pregnant since I'm feeling okay and not really showing yet, but I have a feeling I will start poking out any day now and then it might seem more real.

Great post, Kelly. Thanks for all the info, glad you are feeling good and Josh is healing up. Marissa is quite a cute little challenge for you!! So funny, and Shane's comments are so funny and good.
What a fun post. I loved all of the updates.
I think that 3-4 is the age of never-ending curiosity. Clare was obsessed with marriage a while back, and she doesn't understand why she can't marry her brother.
Glad to hear you're feeling well!
glad Josh's surgery went well! and glad to hear all your updates. Congrats on the mini van. And you deserve an awesome mom award for teaching shane to be so smart and to already be teaching him his articles of faith, my 9 yr olds in primary don't even know all of them yet! haha and tell Shane he can marry me! :)
i love all the updates. where did you guys apply? i thin it would be so fun to end up in a residency with another rossy!
GREAT update post! Your kiddos crack me up! Especially Marissa falling asleep before caving into to saying please. Shane is sooo studly in his school pic. It is so sweet what a good big brother he is. I love that you are already teaching him The Articles of Faith. What a great mom you are!
I loooooved this update. The kids are so hilarious with all the things they say. Marissa falling asleep in her chair was so funny!! Shane sounds like a smart little fella!! Marissa reminds me of Austin- He always brings me clothes for him to put on. especially Landon's clothes for some reason! Glad you are feeling well (haha I love your cravings!!) and that Josh's surgery went well. Hope he is all healed up! Miss you guys, I'm still rooting for PHX!!!!!
