Halfway There!

Bethany Beach, Delaware
Just about every year for as long as I can remember, we've been going with my mom's family to Bethany Beach, Delaware. For those of you unfortunate people who have never heard of Bethany Beach, Delaware and never imagined the state of Delaware contained anything worthwhile, my goal is to convert you to the ways of Bethany. And for those of my family (which, let's face it, is probably most of the people who actually read this blog), hope you enjoy the pics and the reminiscing. My grandparents rent a beach house there from Saturday to Saturday, and it is seriously my favorite week of every year. We get to just be lazy, enjoy the beach and good food, and hang out with each other. There is an unwritten schedule there that goes something like this:
We wake up and exercise: We play tennis, walk and run, ride the bikes to town, etc. (It's a good way to make room for the calories we know we will consume that day!)
Then we usually hose off and get our swimsuits on and head for the beach. This year it was nice because we had a pool we could go to if the wind was blowing sand in our face or the biting flies were out.
(Notice: I don't have pictures of any the aforementioned events, probably because I do not feel at my most attractive with sweaty clothes or a now poochy belly in a bathing suit!)
In the afternoon after showering we usually play games like dice or Yahtzee.
Some people work on puzzles
And then we have a delicious dinner at 6

We Swear We Paid Our Tithing This Month...
...but you would think we hadn't with the luck we've had the past two days! Yesterday morning I went out to my car to go to work and noticed a piece of concrete lying by my car. I didn't think much of it, til I got in and looked at my sideview mirror and realized it had completely shattered, and then got out and saw I had two dents in my door too. I don't know if someone threw the piece of concrete or if it fell out of a moving truck, but it was frustrating because we had no idea who it was.
But if I thought that was bad, our landlord knocked on our door this evening and asked what happened to our car, and we walked outside and saw this (minus the lady in the background)
we just saw this white car had done this to Josh's car and didn't know who in their right mind would park their car backwards into our car and just leave. Then the lady in the background came walking down the street and said "Excuse me, this is my car." And we said, "well these are ours." She had reported her car stolen, nd then we realized that she had left her car in neutral to run her sick granddaughter into the house half a block down the road and it rolled all that way to hit our car. Well, both our cars actually.
Here's a better picture of the damage to Josh's car.

I guess it's just one of those things you gotta laugh about, but I mean really, what are the odds? The good thing is we weren't in the car for either of the incidents, and everything is really okay, it'll just cost us some money to fix the stuff the concrete did to my car the first day. I guess we'll just have to park our cars on the grass or something tomorrow!

Is it a boy or a girl? See for yourself...
So I am only 17 weeks, but one of the teachers at my school is married to an ultrasound technician, and he did an early gender check for us. He was so nice, he spent a lot of time with us showing us everything and explaining things, gave us 9 pictures and a video, and did it all for free! If you don't already know what it is, I'll let you test your ultrasound interpreting skills below...

We are very happy to be able to know what it is for sure and not just be guessing. We are already pretty set on a name, Shane, so now we don't have to call our baby "it" either. And everything looked healthy too, so we couldn't be happier.

Fourth of July Fun
Apparently Provo, Utah has the largest Independence Day celebration in the nation. So we went and partook of some of the festivities. We walked down to Freedom Days, where there were tons of little stands with people selling stuff, entertainment, food, etc.
This hot pregnant lady couldn't resist getting one of these "Texas Twister" drinks!
I felt bad that Josh couldn't eat any of the fried fatty goodness there so I made some homemade scones for Navajo tacos, sans gluten.
That night we were ticket takers for Stadium of Fire, the big concert/firework show at BYU Stadium. This was our third year doing it, and we had a lot of fun. Miley Cyrus came this year, and the preteen girls were out in full force. The fireworks show was really good too, and we were so close we almost got sprayed by some of the fallout. I'm pretty sure the baby heard the show too, I could feel my stomach vibrating while the big ones went off! I didn't think it quite appropriate to ask one of the patrons to take a picture of us while we were supposed to be working, so I just got this picture of Josh in his lovely Event Staff shirt.
